After scrolling through page after page of meetups that seemed too "organized" , oriented around a specific activity, already had thousands of members or always seemed to require RSVP's and advance ticket purchases, I realized I had to start my own meetup to accomplish what I really want - which is to meet cool new people for quality friendships. If you're like me, when you get to a certain age (ahem - namely 30's or so) you start to notice your friends marrying off, having kids, moving too far …

Hello! We are a mid-thirties couple that recently moved to Tarrytown and are expecting our first child. We're still quite early, just finishing up our first trimester, but want to see if there are any others in this area that are going through the same life changes that we are currently experiencing. Ideas for meetups would include hikes/walks in Rockerfeller State Park, coffee/drinks in local cafes, lazy Saturday lunches, or anything else that would allow us to enjoy the day while talking about …

"Why get families outdoors? Quite simply, nature is good for us. Evidence shows that it is important, healthy and fun for children to have frequent and varied opportunities for play outdoors -- and especially outdoors with natural vegetation -- as part of their everyday lives." -Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder Tarrytown and the Hudson Valley area is rich with natural beauty. Any one is welcome at any level of observance. We can celebrate holidays together, do crafts, have meetups in the area and at each others houses, etc.

Are you parenting a Jewish child but, just like me, would rather have him or her receive Jewish education in the home instead of at a synagogue? I started organizing Jewish home-study circles for kids when my son was little and I was a Hebrew School director at a Conservative synagogue. In a moment of professional honest self-reflection I realized that, a new approach to Jewish education would be required if kids, my son included, were to love their Jewish education. Educating at home, on a week …

Dining for Women is a dinner giving circle. As a psychologist and acupuncturist I have long felt that the best way people can help themselves is to come together in community and help each other. The goal of peer therapy is to exchange sessions. The advantages of this setup are several. You become empowered as you empower your partner. You remain the author of your own process of self-discovery and healing. You learn to be a companion for your partners by not getting in their way, but by being present for them. The method I will pro …
